Keep the price basis visible
A depot asking price covers a different scope from a delivered quotation. A starting price does not promise that amount for every grade, depot or ZIP code. No currency conversion or automatic discount is applied to these observations.
These examples concern container shells. Match the door arrangement and precise used grade before comparing them. They do not include an insulated office fit-out, commissioned refrigerated installation or completed container home.
Get a delivered price for my addressWhy can a catalog price differ from the supplier examples?
The public examples above and the catalog calculations are two different records. The table preserves suppliers' observed asking prices. The catalog uses a larger selected sample by model to calculate indicative amounts for quotation requests; neither record establishes a national average.
| Record | Selected sample | How to use it |
|---|---|---|
| Public supplier examples above | 12 examples from 2 suppliers; checked October 1, 2026 | Read the published amount, condition and location together. No 25% reduction is applied to these observations. |
| Catalog reference calculations | 50 selected references across 14 supplier groups for 18 models; reviewed October 1, 2026 | Within each model, average multiple references from the same supplier first, then give each supplier equal weight. Reduce that reference by 25% and round once to the nearest cent. |
Example: used 20ft standard WWT
The catalog reference for this model is $1,525 USD from 3 observations across 3 supplier groups. Applying the 25% calculation gives an indicative $1,143.75 USD before applicable taxes, delivery and unloading. A particular Chicago supplier example and this model calculation cover different samples; compare the actual unit and destination before choosing.
15 catalog models use references from multiple suppliers; 3 use a single supplier reference rather than a multi-supplier average. A model without a comparable reference remains price on request. Model pages identify their basis and retain a From label whenever a starting-price reference contributes to the calculation.
Catalog amounts are indicative container-only figures before applicable sales taxes, transport, unloading and options. Where a source did not state its tax or delivery treatment, no deduction was invented. Confirm those items in the supplier's written quotation.
The calculation does not promise a saving or stock
The 25% calculation applies only to the catalog's indicative amount. It does not reduce a third-party supplier's asking price, establish savings from a former ContainerFox sale price or promise that a supplier will sell at that amount. A quote request takes no payment; the contracting seller confirms the actual unit, availability and final delivered total.
Use the model catalog to choose a specification, the buying guide to assess a seller, and the quote comparison to compare complete totals. The editorial methodology explains what we check and how corrections are handled.
Define the size and condition before comparing prices
Size, condition, door arrangement and the supplier's actual stock define what you are pricing. Compare equivalent units before comparing totals.
| Requirement | Ask the supplier | Why it changes the cost |
|---|---|---|
| Size | 10ft, 20ft, 40ft or High Cube; actual external and door dimensions | Extra space may require different transport and site access. |
| Condition | One-trip, cargo-worthy, wind and watertight or an explicitly described repair project | Condition labels do not replace photos and an inspection of the actual unit. |
| Doors | End doors, side opening, extra access or other modification | Opening changes affect purchase price, handling and structural design. |
| Use | Unheated storage, occupied workspace or temperature-controlled storage | Insulation, fit-out, services and approvals are separate from the shell. |
Ask whether the quotation reserves an identified unit or a unit from a specified grade. Record the stock location, quote expiration and substitution policy. Do not treat a marketing photograph or a supplier's directory listing as confirmation that the illustrated container is available.
Why container prices differ between suppliers
A lower collection price can become a higher delivered total. Compare the departure depot, included work, taxes and contract period on the same basis.
- Depot and distance. Compare actual road routes from the dispatch depot. A company's head office need not be the collection yard.
- Condition and repairs. Include required floor repairs, door seals, lock protection and repainting in the written scope.
- Access and lifting. A tilt-bed delivery, truck-mounted crane and separate crane have different requirements. Confirm the method before booking.
- Rental periods. Weekly, four-weekly and calendar-month billing are different. Ask for the full cost over your exact dates, including collection.
- Tax basis. Compare final USD amounts payable. A refundable deposit is a cash requirement separate from the project cost.
Calculate the full container, delivery and unloading cost
Ask for the container, transport, unloading and all mandatory charges to be itemized. Applicable sales or use tax depends on the transaction and state and local rules; there is no single national all-in rate.
- Container purchase or rental for the agreed period and quantity.
- Dispatch location, delivery address, transport and any ferry or remote-route charges.
- Unloading equipment, setup area, waiting time and unsuccessful-delivery charges.
- Site preparation, foundations or support design, access works and connections where required.
- Applicable state and local sales or use taxes, followed by the final amount payable.
- For rentals: collection, cleaning, damage terms, minimum period and deposit return conditions.
A Chicago delivery, a coastal Washington project and a northern seasonal route can have very different logistics. Provide your municipality, state, ZIP code, access photographs and intended placement. Confirm carrier restrictions and the ground conditions for the delivery date, including snow clearing or spring-thaw restrictions where relevant.
The supplier must establish the tax treatment for the actual transaction. Do not assume a business can recover every tax it pays.
Compare costs without omitting required services
Define which features are essential, then compare a suitable used unit, another size, or rental for the same project duration.
A sound used storage container may meet an unheated storage brief; a residential conversion needs a much wider design and approval budget. A refrigerated unit also needs a compatible electrical supply and an operating-cost estimate. Avoid comparing the price of a steel shell with a completed building or commissioned cold store.
For a short project, include rental collection and minimum charges. For ownership, include maintenance and eventual removal. Keep any assumed resale value separate: it is neither guaranteed income nor money available to pay today's invoice.
Build a buy-versus-rent scenarioWhat these price examples include
These indicative USD examples were recorded on October 1, 2026. They concern container shells, with each row retaining the condition, location and fixed or starting-price basis. Confirm applicable sales taxes, delivery and unloading in a current quote.
A market or depot amount is not a delivered total. Starting prices do not establish the final amount for every condition or destination. Where tax or delivery inclusion is unstated, treat it as unconfirmed; allow separately for unloading, site preparation and any conversion work.
These selected examples do not establish a national average, lowest market price, current inventory or commercial relationship. Obtain a quote for the actual unit and exact destination, including Alaska, Hawaii and any ferry or remote-road legs where relevant.
Examples more than 120 days old are shown as historical. The amounts are third-party asking prices, not ContainerFox sale offers or guaranteed stock. ContainerFox model pages describe specifications and accept quote requests; the supplier confirms the final condition, availability, price and delivered total.
