Choose your service
A sea can delivered to your home, business or construction site. Keep access to your goods throughout the rental.
Request on-site storagePack at your pace, then have the loaded container moved or stored by a provider that offers this service. Specify both addresses in your enquiry.
Prepare a moving enquiryTake your belongings to the storage facility. Compare its location, access hours and any climate-control options.
Request depot storageA steel sea can and a portable moving container can serve different rental arrangements. An on-site rental may cover delivery and pickup of an empty unit only. A moving service also needs an agreed loaded weight, loading method, destination and storage schedule. Depot self-storage gives you space at the facility; it does not automatically include pickup of your belongings.
For a renovation, prioritise access to the items you need every week. For a move, confirm the transport service first. For business inventory, compare door access, opening hours and conditions for frequent loading.
Size matters
Measure your largest items and allow an aisle if you need regular access. These are typical internal volumes, before packing.

Request this size2,390.8 cu ft
Larger inventories and job-site materials when your site has room.
Request this size2,694.5 cu ft

External dimensions follow the site’s ISO 668 reference. Interior and door measurements are typical Hapag-Lloyd fleet examples. Confirm the actual rental unit, especially if lined or fitted with shelving. The footprint excludes truck manoeuvring and door-opening space.
Measure a bulky item in its loading orientation, including packaging and its pallet. Enough internal height does not mean it will fit through the doors. Tell the supplier about heavy equipment or dense stock so the floor loading and handling method can be checked.
Rental cost
Size, number of months, minimum term and extension rate.
Transport both ways, unloading, placement and any loaded moves.
Lock, insurance, cleaning, damage terms and applicable sales taxes.
Request the total in CAD for the same dates and services. Ask whether billing uses calendar months or another period, how a partial period is charged and when rent stops. Record the pickup notice required and the extension rate if your project runs late.
Show a refundable deposit separately from rental charges. For depot storage, add the cost of taking your goods there and any access or administration fees. For moving, include every loaded transfer and any time held at the provider’s facility.
Make the space usable
Make an inventory, label boxes and keep frequently used items near the entrance. An aisle reduces the volume you can fill but avoids unloading everything for one item. Agree any shelving or fixings with the owner before installation. If the unit will travel loaded, follow the carrier’s packing and securing instructions.
Avoid loading damp furniture, wet cardboard or textiles. Keep ventilation openings clear and leave room to inspect the contents. A rainproof shell can still develop condensation. Tell the supplier about temperature-sensitive stock and how often you can inspect it; ask for a suitable storage arrangement.
From drop-off to pickup
01
Send the address, entrance measurements, route photos and preferred door direction. The carrier confirms truck clearance, unloading method and suitable support; the box dimensions alone are not enough.
02
Inspect the floor, doors and seals before loading. Photograph the condition, confirm the lock arrangement and keep the rental inventory. Ask who handles a fault during the rental.
03
Book pickup with the required notice. Keep the truck route clear, including after landscaping or winter weather. Empty and clean the unit as agreed, unless a loaded transfer is explicitly part of the booking.
Your storage enquiry
The supplier confirms the service, availability and price. Your enquiry is free and does not reserve a unit.
“I need a 20ft storage container for a three-month renovation at [postal code]. Contents: dry furniture and boxed household goods, with access once a week. It will stay on site and be empty for pickup. Please price delivery, pickup, a lock, the minimum term and a one-month extension. I can send driveway photos.”
Illustrative brief only; replace the details with your project.
The rate depends on the size, rental period and location. Ask for the rental total plus delivery, pickup, taxes and any extras. A monthly rate alone does not show the full cost.
The supplier needs to check truck access, placement space and ground conditions. Check any local placement restrictions before booking, and leave room to open the doors.
Some portable-storage companies offer this service. Confirm it before loading: a standard rental may allow transport only when empty. Give both addresses and describe the contents.
Ask for a clean, dry unit and discuss moisture-sensitive items. A standard sea can is not climate controlled; insulation alone does not control temperature or humidity.
