How much does a shipping container cost?

The examples concern container shells. Fit-out, electrical work, insulation, engineering, council approvals, foundations and a completed container home are separate costs.

What do catalogue prices mean?

Select a size, construction and condition in the model catalogue, then request a written AUD quotation identifying the actual supplier, proposed unit, GST, delivery, unloading and all mandatory charges. Sending an enquiry takes no payment and places no order.

A one-trip unit has travelled from manufacture and may have handling marks. A never-used factory unit is a separate specification. Used 10ft cut-down storage units are also different from factory-built 10ft freight containers.

Why can two quotations differ?

• Depot and route: ask for the actual dispatch yard. The supplier's office may be elsewhere.
• Condition: define repairs, floor, seals, lockbox and repainting in writing.
• Access: agree tilt tray, side loader or crane truck, vehicle access and ground bearing capacity.
• Hire period: weekly, four-weekly and calendar-month charges differ. Ask for a total over the same dates, including return transport.
• Cash provision: keep a refundable security deposit separate from the project cost and record return conditions.

How do GST and delivery affect the total?

• Container or hire charges for the specified unit, quantity and full period.
• GST treatment and a clear GST-inclusive amount payable; clearly identify any B2B ex-GST component.
• Dispatch depot, delivery postcode, transport, ferry or remote-route charges.
• Unloading equipment, waiting time, positioning and unsuccessful-delivery charges.
• Site preparation, approved foundations or supports, access works and service connections where needed.
• Hire collection, cleaning and damage terms, minimum period and security-deposit conditions.

Consumer pricing must disclose the minimum total cost, including taxes and unavoidable or preselected charges. A delivery cost that cannot yet be calculated must be disclosed and confirmed for the address. An advertised collection amount is not a delivered total. ACCC price-display guidance.

The standard GST rate applies to taxable supplies; the seller confirms the actual treatment and tax invoice. Do not add GST again to an inclusive amount, and do not assume every business purchase qualifies for a GST credit. ATO GST overview.

Give the supplier your suburb or town, state or territory, four-digit postcode, access photographs and intended placement. Remote roads, wet-season access, ferry connections and local lifting equipment can change the transport plan.

How can you control the budget?

For short-term storage, include hire delivery, unloading, collection and minimum charges. For ownership, include maintenance and eventual removal. Keep assumed resale value separate: it is not guaranteed income available to pay today's invoice.

An occupied office or dwelling needs the applicable planning and building approvals, NCC requirements and site-specific design. A refrigerated unit needs electrical and commissioning checks. A shell price is not the budget for either completed installation.
