Security combines the unit, the lock system and the way the site is used. Start with the goods, access routine and insurer’s conditions.

## Specify compatible door protection

Ask whether a lockbox is fitted, which padlock it accepts and who holds keys. Check locking bars and hinges. A protective box can reduce exposed hardware; it establishes no certified resistance rating without evidence for the actual system.

Do not weld or drill additional openings without the owner’s agreement and a suitable assessment. Alterations can affect the structure, coatings, water resistance and rental contract.

## Plan everyday access

Consider lighting, visibility, fencing, inventory records and key control. Keep the door swing and carrying route accessible during snow and ice. Confirm insured goods, values, required locks and exclusions with the insurer.

Do not assume the rental agreement insures the contents or covers every theft or water-damage event. Record the condition at delivery and follow the agreed reporting procedure.

An occupied office or workshop needs a suitable exit arrangement under the applicable workplace and building rules. Do not secure it with an exterior padlock while people are inside. For workplaces covered by 29 CFR 1910.36(d), employees must be able to open exit-route doors from inside without a key, tool or special knowledge. Construction egress has separate duties under 1926.34. Confirm the appropriate doors, clear routes and emergency access for the actual use; shipping-container doors alone do not establish an approved exit.

## Assess hazardous goods separately

A standard steel shipping container is not automatically an approved chemical store. Review safety data sheets, compatibility, ventilation, spill control, ignition sources and the applicable fire-code requirements with qualified people. Keeping a door open is not a designed ventilation or fire-protection system.

For hazardous chemicals in a US workplace, identify the applicable federal OSHA or OSHA-approved State Plan requirements. Hazard Communication duties can include labels, accessible safety data sheets, employee information and training, and a written workplace program. Storage quantities, incompatibilities, ventilation and fire protection require a separate assessment under the rules for the material and site. A standard freight container is not automatically an approved flammable-liquid storage building. Hazardous-material transport is separately regulated by DOT/PHMSA; classification, packaging, marking and shipping documentation need competent review.

## Questions before you choose

### Is a lockbox a guarantee against theft?

No. Check the hardware, site arrangements and insurance conditions. No theft-proof performance is promised.

## Turn the checks into a clear quote request

Compare the equipment, delivery and services for your project. ContainerFox helps prepare your request; a directory listing does not mean that a business is a partner or will receive it.
