Decide whether the container stays at one property or travels while loaded. Empty-container rental and a loaded move are different services.

## Confirm what the supplier will move

Ask whether the company provides a loaded transfer, a portable moving unit or only empty-container delivery. Confirm permitted contents, loading time, custody, destination access and responsibility for packing and securing.

A directory listing does not establish cross-province moving coverage. Confirm the route, dates and any handoff between carriers in writing.

## Choose the service before choosing the box

A sea can, a purpose-built portable moving unit and a self-storage locker are not interchangeable offers. Confirm which equipment and transport service the company is quoting.

| Service | Where the goods stay | What to confirm |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Delivered stationary container | At your property | Empty-unit delivery and pickup; whether loaded movement is excluded |
| Storage at a supplier's facility | At the provider's site | Who transports the goods, access hours and loading arrangements |
| Loaded portable-unit transfer | Inside the unit during an agreed move | Permitted load, securing, route, custody and both-site access |
| Full-service moving and storage | Under the mover's agreed handling arrangement | Packing, pickup, storage, redelivery and responsibility at each stage |

## Prepare the inventory and protection

Record packed dimensions, mass, fragile goods and items needing access. Choose suitable packing for the journey and storage conditions. Review moisture protection and avoid loading wet furnishings into a closed unit.

Ask about prohibited goods, contents coverage, exclusions, declared value and claims. Do not assume household insurance covers goods in a rented container or during carriage. Declare any fuels, gas cylinders, batteries or other potentially dangerous goods to the carrier before packing; household ownership does not by itself establish a transport exemption.

## Plan both addresses

Confirm placement permissions, truck access and unloading at both sites. Include safe door access, snow clearance and pickup dates. Ask the local authority about any proposed occupation of a public road.

Compare the complete CAD amount: equipment, loaded transport, unloading, storage period, pickup and applicable taxes. Show refundable deposits and possible damage charges separately.

## Plan loading and retrieval together

Keep frequently needed items reachable and identify the largest objects before filling the unit. Record items that cannot be stacked, must stay upright or need more than one person or specialist equipment to handle. Use the measured inventory for packed dimensions rather than relying on the number of bedrooms.

Packing for stationary storage is not automatically suitable for transport. Obtain the carrier's loading and securing instructions for the proposed service, and agree who supplies materials and checks the load. Keep a private inventory and photographs for your records; the quote brief needs the practical requirements, not an unnecessarily detailed list of valuables.

- Confirm the loading window and access arrangements at both addresses.
- Keep goods dry and follow product and packing instructions.
- Record the condition and the point when each provider takes responsibility.
- Keep the pickup contact, destination contact and agreed dates together.

## Allow for a change of moving date

A six-week renovation may become eight weeks. Ask how an extension is billed, whether the stated period is a calendar month or four weeks, and what notice is needed before pickup. Confirm any separate loaded-transfer booking and cancellation terms.

Compare the agreed equipment period, deliveries, loaded transport, handling, return, taxes and possible extra charges. A refundable deposit is money tied up under stated conditions, not automatically a rental expense. No generic monthly amount can replace a quote for your route and service.

## Questions before you choose

### Can an empty-container quote cover a loaded move?

Only with explicit written confirmation of loaded carriage, allowable mass, securing, handling and responsibility for the goods.

### Can I get to the contents while the unit is stored at a depot?

Ask about the actual provider's access hours, notice, fees and loading arrangements. A storage location in a listing does not establish unrestricted access.

### Who secures the goods for the journey?

Agree that responsibility explicitly with the carrier. Packing for a stationary container does not by itself establish a load suitable for road transport.

## Turn the checks into a clear quote request

Compare the equipment, delivery and services for your project. ContainerFox helps prepare your request; a directory listing does not mean that a business is a partner or will receive it.
